This year’s BIPOSA takes place
on Wednesday 30th September – Friday02nd October, 2026
at the Titanic Hotel, Stanley Dock, Liverpool
Abstracts
This year, abstracts will be accepted in two categories only: paper poster or oral presentation (rapid-fire or free paper). Please do not submit the same abstract to both categories. Separate submission forms are used for each category
Oral presentation
Submissions should be related to paediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, strabismus surgery and vision assessment. However those with a related interest may be considered.
If accepted as an oral presentation you may be offered either a rapid-fire presentation or a free paper presentation. To submit an abstract for an ORAL presentation use this form
Paper poster
All posters will be paper (printed) posters. This means you bring your physical poster with you to the meeting.
Submissions should be related to paediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, strabismus surgery and vision assessment. However those with a related interest may be considered.
You must personally register for and attend the meeting in person to display your poster. Colleagues or co-authors are not permitted to display posters on your behalf. You can submit an abstract for a paper poster here
Submitting / first author
The submitting (first-named) author is responsible for the abstract. They must register, pay the registration fee, and attend the meeting in person. If you have no intention of attending the meeting, please do not submit an abstract. By submitting an abstract, your in-person attendance is essential. BIPOSA faces significant challenges when confirmed presenters or poster authors are absent, including managing delegate expectations and cost.
Failure to attend may result in blacklisting and the automatic rejection of any abstract submissions for future meetings.

Important information
Once the abstract is submitted, we will not accept changes
The summary of results must be detailed enough to support your conclusions. We will not accept “the results will be discussed”
In general please avoid formulae
When introducing abbreviations or acronyms for the first time, they should be spelled out in full, followed by the abbreviation or acronym in parentheses
You are required to let us know about the interest that ANY of the authors may have in the research work undertaken and if the work has been presented or published elsewhere
The order of authors on a research paper is crucial, as it reflects each researcher’s level of contribution to the study, their specific responsibilities, and the amount of credit they should receive. BIPOSA does not accept changes to either the order of authors, the author listing or the addition/subtraction of authors. The listing must be correct at the time of submission
List the institution only of where the work was undertaken (not your current hospital if that is different)
Ensure that you have received the proper patient consent. We may ask you to provide evidence of this
Annual Prizes, Bursaries and support
BIPOSA is pleased to announce that once again it will be supporting early career researchers, medics in training and orthoptists. For more detailed information on prizes see our prizes tab below
BMJ Online Ophthalmology
If your work is accepted and you wish your abstract to be included in BMJ Open Ophthalmology, you must follow the instructions and deadlines provided by email. Inclusion requires full meeting registration with payment of the registration fee and submission of the author declaration form. Indicating consent alone does not guarantee inclusion.
If we do not hear from you, the declaration form is not returned, and/or you have not registered by the deadline, we will assume you do not wish your abstract to be published, and it will not be included. No exceptions will be made, and no deadline extensions will be granted.
Acknowledgment
You will receive an automated email if your abstract has been successfully submitted to our server. It is your responsibility to check that we have received your abstract submission. Confirmation or otherwise of acceptance of the abstract, and all associated documents will be sent to the email address you provide, so please include a valid and reliable email address
