Programme

The scientific meeting takes place on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

We are pleased to announce a parallel afternoon session for orthoptists and allied professionals on Wednesday afternoon. This will be hosted by Kelly MacKenzie (Head Orthoptist at Moorfields) and Craig Murray (Senior Lecturer at Liverpool University, and Chair of BIOS).

This special session is open to anyone registered with a Wednesday day ticket or a full meeting ticket. Find out more

Speakers

Rail and tube strikes

There is industrial action on the rail network and tube strikes.  Not all services are cancelled and there are limited trains on some networks. Great Western, ScotRail, Grand Central and the Elizabeth Line are all running. Check here for details. The buses, airports and taxis are all running. Think about car sharing. There is a Q car park at Cavendish Square which is 5 minutes walk from the venue.

There is no virtual aspect to the meeting. We are going ahead as planned. We are not refunding registration tickets

Registration

FULLY BOOKED and REGISTRATION CLOSED

Please be advised due to the numbers attending this year we will be using an overflow lecture theatre for the duration of the conference to accommodate as many people as possible.

There will be no reserving of seats during sessions so during busy times you may be directed to use the overflow theatre.

If you are planning on attending this year’s BIPOSA, please note that there is no on site registration.

Annual dinner at House of Commons

We are fully booked.

If you have a ticket, this will be available for collection at the meeting registration desk. Tickets are printed in your name. You must bring your ticket and photo ID with you to the House of Commons. You will NOT get into the dinner without it. Tickets are not transferable to anyone else after 30th August and we cannot refund after this date. Access is via the Cromwell Green entrance (opposite the back of Westminster Abbey). You will go through airport style security and will be asked to remove items such as belts and boots.

Evaluation and Certificates

Evaluation has now closed. See below if you want a certificate.

Certificates

CPD has evolved to focus on self-reflection not collection of evidence. If you want a certificate, complete the evaluation. This will be open for three months.

It is your responsibility to gain and keep your certificates if required. We do not provide copies.

Self-completing certificates are sent automatically after sending in the evaulation form or you can download one here. One certificate per day of attendance. Download, type in your name in the box, and save to your local machine

Posters

This year posters are all paper posters. These must be A1 in portrait format only

Poster abstracts online

You must have a ticket for the meeting to show your poster and for it to be listed online. All poster authors must be registered by 15th August 2023.

There is a £500 prize for the best paper poster

Annual Prizes, Bursaries and support

BIPOSA is pleased to announce that once again it will be supporting early career researchers, medics in training and orthoptists.

There will be four prizes (each to a value of £500) awarded in the following categories in the free paper sessions:

      • Best Paediatric free papers (two prizes)
      • Best Strabismus free paper (two prizes)

There will be one poster prize (to a value of £500) awarded in the following category:

      • Best paper poster displayed at the meeting

The RSM Ocular Motility section awards a £250 cheque to the best strabismus paper presented at BIPOSA (subject to also presenting at the RSM section meeting usually held in January)

 

Supporting newly qualified / student orthoptists

BIPOSA supports student orthoptists and awards prizes to the top student nominated by their course tutor. This applies to the University of Sheffield, University of Liverpool, University of Glasgow and University of London

BIPOSA provides each prizewinning student with  a free ticket to the meeting on Thursday & Friday PLUS an honorarium of £200 to go towards their travel / accommodation.

 

Other support

To support orthoptists with the cost of producing a paper poster, BIPOSA will give a grant of up to £50 to reimburse the cost of private printing a poster only on production of a receipt. We will not cover hopsital / university medical illustration or departmental printing costs (only private printing costs).
